Columcille

Columcille is a day support service for adults with learning disabilities based in Morningside, Edinburgh and provides workshops in music, drama, art, dance, crafts, woodwork, printing, keep fit, pottery, café and gardening. We also offer therapies in rhythmic massage, music therapy and movement therapy.

We are open Monday to Friday 9.00 – 4.00 (3.00pm Wednesday).

We welcome people aged 18 and over to our service and can meet the needs of a wide range of individuals, including those who also have mental health needs or are on the autistic spectrum. Each person is respected and valued as a unique individual with gifts. Our work, using hand crafts, performance-based activities and seasonal celebrations provides purpose and structure. Our social setting creates a warm sense of community.

 

Dance Workshop Volunteer

Our Friday afternoon Biodanza dance session is a very popular activity. Biodanza is an inclusive and joyful type of movement that everyone can participate in.

We are looking for someone to volunteer alongside our paid staff to help support people to participate fully and enjoy the session. There is also a half hour karaoke singing session that ends the afternoon where service users take turns to sing a song of their choice, and the volunteer would help to support this also.

 

Hours & days required
Fridays 1pm – 4pm

Key Qualities or Skills Required

  • Must be reliable and dependable
  • Capable of building relationships that are respectful and dignified
  • A willingness to take part fully in the dance session.   
  • Enthusiasm and positive attitude
  • Able to provide some emotional support to individuals
  • You may also provide help with setting up the room, over tea breaks.

 

Training

Induction into Columcille and volunteering with vulnerable will be provided. A dance tutor leads the group and will provide support, as well as support from staff.
