School Mentor

School Mentor Role Description What? We are looking for volunteer mentors who support young people at one of the high schools we are currently working with (see below). As a mentor, you would be matched to a S2-S4 (12-15 years) young person from one of the schools. Where? Craigroyston Community High School (Muirhouse/Pilton), St Thomas of Aquins High School (near The Meadows) or Leith Academy (in Leith). Depending on the mentees preference and level of comfort, mentoring sessions could take place inside the school building or in a nearby public setting such as a café, a library, or a park. When and how long for? 3-12 months – 1 hour weekly; although this will be flexible and may fluctuate to meet school timetables and mentor availability. Mentors will have to be available to meet with the young person within school hours so a degree of flexibility and availability during the day is essential. (Core hours: 9 to 15:00) What does Project Scotland do? Across Scotland we support people (primarily young people) to reach their potential through tailored support, mentoring and volunteering. I Bike schools volunteering

You can support your local ‘I Bike’ team with outdoor activities for children and young people at a school in your area. The activities you can help with could include: teaching children and young people how to cycle or scoot doing school playground cycle skills activities leading cycle rides or walks in your area near the school showing how to look after and repair a cycle helping with the maintenance of bikes (training provided). And much more! Volunteering is flexible. Just let us know in your application if there are certain activities or tasks that you would like to do. This includes if you only want to help look after our bicycles, and not be engaged directly with activities for children. We will provide you with training and support during your time volunteering. At Children 1st our ambition is for every child in Scotland to be safe, loved and well with their family. As a charity we offer emotional, practical, and financial support to help families to put children first and campaign to uphold the rights of every child. This volunteering opportunity will be based within the Children 1st Edinburgh Family Wellbeing Service which supports children and families across the whole of Edinburgh.   The safety and wellbeing of children and young people is at the heart of what we do. Our work includes support for families who face a number of different barriers and challenges including: ethnically diverse backgrounds; money worries; children with additional support needs; families linked to the armed forces; children and parents affected by poor mental health and families affected by domestic abuse. Role purpose As a Youth Work Volunteer you will: Help facilitate our in-person group workshops with young people. Collaborate with and support a Youth & Family Coordinator. Provide support in schools across Edinburgh and East Lothian.
