Empty Kitchens, Full Hearts is an Edinburgh-based initiative which prepares and delivers free meals to more than 1,100 people in the city every day. Set up in April 2020 in response to the pandemic, Empty Kitchens, Full Hearts aims to tackle food insecurity and waste by repurposing surplus food and distributing it, without judgement and cost, to those who need it most.
The success of this organisation is driven by our volunteers. Chefs take food donations and turn them into breakfasts, lunches and dinners. These are turned into meal packs which are delivered by car and bicycle across the city.
We are always looking for volunteers in the following roles:
- Chefs (experience required) and Kitchen Porters
- Delivery drivers and Cyclists
Volunteering is flexible. You can opt for a regular pattern or volunteer on a week-by-week basis. For those interested in food and kitchen skills, we have a Kitchen Assistant scheme where participants can gain a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
