JOB DETAILS

Title: ASSISTANT COOK

Immediate Supervisor : HEAD CHEF

Accountable to : MANAGER / BOARD OF MANAGEMENT

 

MISSION STATEMENT

St. Anne’s Care Home was founded by the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Paul to meet the needs of the frail and elderly Residents, enabling them to maintain the activities of living in an atmosphere of care, peace, and comfort.   In St. Anne’s, each individual is treated with respect and his/her dignity as a child of God is affirmed and reverenced.

PROVISION OF CARE

Care will be provided by a team of staff within the Home, working under the direction of the Manager. Care will be provided on the basis of a personalised and individual care plan. The care plan will be established, maintained and continually evaluated for each Resident to ensure holistic care. All staff will undertake a planned programme of induction and ongoing training to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement holistic care for each resident.

DIMENSIONS

Members of Staff will report directly to you and you are required to supervise all Kitchen and Dining Room Assistants in their duties.

You will not be directly responsible for any budgets but must be aware of the need to work within them.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensuring all Residents requirements are met to a high standard and that meals are healthy and tasty.
  • Comply with St Anne’s policies and practices including those which incorporate Health & Safety, COSHH an infection control, and may be specific to COVID infection or similar viruses.
  • Maintain standards of tidiness in the kitchen and dining room environments and to ensure that staff carries out appropriate duties in connection with the above.
  • Take part, when required, in the promotional and marketing aspects of the Home.
  • Participate in team meetings, management meetings and staff development activities.
  • Maintain personal skills and knowledge relevant to the curriculum and to keep up to date in current methods appropriate to the area of work.
  • Maintain practical equipment to a serviceable and safe condition and refer any equipment requiring repair to the Handyman or Manager.
  • Assist in controlling food production standards and levels within St. Anne’s.
  • Maintain relevant documents – daily temperature controls; stock control; risk assessments within work area (equipment, chemicals and foodstuffs) in order to meet standards set by governing bodies and St Anne’s policies.
  • Assist in the maintenance of practical areas in a clean and tidy condition.
  • Be aware of and comply with all the policies of St. Anne’s.
  • Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required of you commensurate with your general level of responsibility.
  • Applying and adhering to the infection control policies.

The above duties and responsibilities are not exhaustive and may be amended to suit the changing needs of the service.

 

ASSIGNMENT AND REVIEW OF WORK

 Starting and finishing times to be agreed by the Manager.

  • 3 months probationary period.
  • Annual appraisal from the Head Chef/Manager.
  • Ad hoc meetings, e.g. sickness absence/return to work, as required.

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

To provide effective and efficient communication and working relationships with colleagues, residents and the general public.

Maintain an awareness of current issues within St. Anne’s and impart information to colleagues, where appropriate.

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED

  • A qualified chef with 7061/2 or NVQ equivalent
  • A sound knowledge of all cookery skills and equipment.
  • Being prepared for Environmental Inspections and unannounced inspections by governing bodies.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and willingness to undertake further training including those skills and competencies relevant to the needs of the residents.
  • Previous working experience within this speciality is desirable.
  • Sound interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work well within a team and be able to promote a good working relationship, be adaptable and maintain a pleasant atmosphere and working environment.
  • The ability to maintain high standards of care within defined resources.
  • Sound communication skills, verbal and non-verbal, are essential.
  • Motivation to work with the elderly in a Care Home setting.
