There are three types of apprenticeships available in Scotland as well as a pre-apprenticeship:
Pre-Apprenticeships are available across a range of disciplines and are suitable for those from school leaver age. They are developed to prepare you with the base knowledge and skills for entry into a Modern Apprenticeship.
Examples: Building Services NPA (Pre-apprentice Plumbing) & Pre-Apprenticeship NC Electrical Installation
Foundation Apprenticeships equip secondary school pupils with workplace experience while completing their National 5s and Highers and also provide the opportunity to achieve a recognised qualification at SCQF Level 6.
Examples: Foundation Apprenticeships with Edinburgh College
Modern Apprenticeships are aimed at people ages 16 and over an allow to earn while you learn. Modern Apprenticeships are available at four different levels, some equivalent to a degree. You will spend most of your time doing on-the-job learning and the rest studying. There will be no cost to you to do the apprenticeship.
Graduate Apprenticeships allow apprentices to take their studies up to Masters level. Graduate apprenticeships are available to people of all ages. Graduate Apprentices can get a range of qualifications, depending on the apprenticeship. They range from SCQF Level 9 (Ordinary degree level) to SCQF Level 11 (Master’s degree level).
There’s no maximum ages for applying to be a Graduate Apprentice.
