Who we are:

Vapotherm UK is subsidiary of Vapotherm Incorporated based in New Hampshire, USA. Vapotherm manufacture and maintain medical device products for the respiratory care sector. We are responsible for maintaining our install base of products for our customers and patients throughout the NHS and the wider Vapotherm partner and distribution network. Our team consist of field-based sales team with our UK HQ based in Midlothian where we operate our Technical Service Department supported by our corporate office management and distribution team.


Work Environment:

The objective of the Technical Service Department is to operate and maintain a fully functional workshop where we repair, test & calibrate our products to ensure continuous support for customers and patients, we adhere to ISO-13485 Quality Management System which ensures we operate to stringent quality management standards providing confidence to customers and regulatory bodies alike. The main elements include Anti-Static safe work areas, the use of complex calibrated test equipment and the use of piped medical grade oxygen and compressed air suitable for running medical grade equipment.


What might a day in this job look like?

  • The working day starts at 9am. Your work area will be kitted out with tools such as screwdrivers and various other hand tools accompanied with other items of test equipment such as oxygen flow analysers and electrical safety testers, digital volt meters etc, which are required for the maintenance and repair of our products.
  • Your Service Manager will allocate tasks to your mentor, and you will work through jobs together throughout the day. These will be mainly planned maintenance tasks such as Preventive Maintenance of Non-Invasive Breathing devices, ultimately working towards full device disassembly, component replacement, re-assembly required to maintain & repair devices to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Jobs will be completed using a supplied laptop incorporating Microsoft Office along with our CRM which records all up-to-date information for work performed on any given day. Accurate records of all maintenance procedures must be kept up to date for audit purposes. CRM also produces service reports which must be supplied to end customer on completion of all work performed on their device.
  • You’ll also write up reports of work you’re carrying out and take photographs to record in your apprenticeship logbook. These can be used as evidence for assessors as you approach the end of your apprenticeship so it’s important to keep on top of things.
  • You’ll have a 1hr lunchbreak around midday and enjoy some downtime.
  • At the end of the day, you’ll review work carried out with your mentor and have a debrief before catching up with your service manager and plan on tomorrow’s work. Working day ends at 5pm (TBD)
  • At the end of each week, you’ll sit down with your line manager and review how the week went, produce an entry in your logbook and plan the week ahead.


What will I learn?

While at College

  • Attend college 2 days per week and your workplace on the days when the college is closed as agreed by all parties associated with the qualification and agreed by tutors and managers.
  • Work closely with the education provider throughout the apprenticeship programme.
  • Complete the required work associated with module assessments in a timely manner, raising issues early when not meeting required deadlines.

While at Work

  • Work with time served colleagues on how to carry out tasks safely and in a timely manner.
  • Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, the post holder is required to work to an agreed training/development plan and on a regular basis to collect and collate supporting evidence for a skills portfolio.
  • Participate in the planned preventative programs.
  • Develop all required skills to a competent level.
  • Ensure work areas are always kept tidy.
  • Always Work safely.


What Qualifications / Qualities are required?

  • Hold a minimum of 3 National 4’s (or equivalent) in Maths, English and a Practical Skills/Technology Subject.
  • Strong IT skills when using a variety of Microsoft Packages,
  • A desire to want a long-term career as an Electrical/Electronic Engineer
  • An interest/understanding of Electronic Engineering
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills to ultimately liaise with colleagues and tutors.
  • Effective team player
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
