Job Description

Hub Grub Café is the Ripple Project’s community café for Restalrig and Lochend.  The café is run by a team of local volunteers with the support of our Community Food and Health Worker.

Volunteers generally commit to 2 or 3 hours, between 10am and 3pm, one day a week or more (Monday to Friday) and are interested in preparing and serving items like hot and cold drinks, soup, filled rolls, sandwiches and home baking.

In return, volunteers have the opportunity to

  • skill up, by receiving formal and informal training.
  • support their local community.
  • meet new people and work in a social environment.

We are looking for people with a warm and friendly manner who are interested in working with and meeting new people from all areas of this community.  Although no special skills are required prior to starting the following is essential;

  • Volunteers must be able to work independently and unsupervised over often busy and demanding periods.
  • Volunteers must be able to follow and adhere to Food Standards Agency good practice and observe strict hygiene codes as directed by the Café co-ordinator.

Café volunteers are given support and guidance to make volunteering with the Ripple Project a rewarding and pleasurable experience. This is also a great opportunity to get involved in the local community and priority is given to people living within the areas of Restalrig, Lochend, Craigentinny and Piershill. Volunteers gain experience and training that might help in work or further education, learn some new recipes, make new friends and have great fun.

Potential volunteers will be interviewed and requested to complete an application form, supply two referees and where appropriate complete a Disclosure/PVG application.  For more details:
