What might a day in this job look like?

1 x Telecoms Operator.

  • To operate the Windows based Switchboard Console.
  • To update changes required to directory in order to keep it accurate and up to date.
  • To be familiar with all emergency procedures within the division’s hospitals and efficiently carry them out.
  • To prioritise emergency calls while ensuring normal operations carry on during Major Incident
  • To have a wide knowledge of departments, staff functions, procedures and terminology.
  • Deals with all enquiries, advice and provides assistance to system users.
  • Be responsible for your own actions and ensure they are in line with the NHS Lothian values and policies.

37.5 hours per week, working a mix of shifts across 7 days, between the hours of 7am and 10pm, including weekend shifts.

1 x Telecoms Administration Assistant

  • To provide administrative support to the Telecoms Switchboard Manager & Deputy Manager.
  • Assisting with basic administrative support and documentation creation and maintenance for the department
  • Helping keep the Switchboard directories and protocols up to date.
  • Making up and sending out the daily emergency calls sheets
  • Be responsible for your own actions and ensure they are in line with the NHS Lothian values and policies

Hours are 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

What will I learn?

  • Gain SVQ Level 2 Healthcare (Non-Clinical) and embed the learning into practice.
  • Obtain underpinning knowledge units: Digital Courses
  • Develop and enhance Administrative/IT Skills within a busy healthcare environment
  • Develop planning and organisational skills.
  • Understanding Health and Safety and ensuring that all work is carried out within required guidelines.
  • Maintaining skill and knowledge level in competencies and core skills.
  • Key employability skills

What Qualifications / Qualities are required?

  • National 4 or above in English and Maths or Core Skills at Level 4 within an alternative qualification. In addition, applicants must have National 4 or above in a Business/Administration or IT subject.
  • 16 – 24 years of age (or up to 29 if you have a disability/care experienced)
  • Strong IT skills when using a variety of Microsoft Packages, particularly Office 365.
  • Effective team player
  • Enthusiasm to learn and develop in a Business and Admin role
  • Commitment to complete Modern Apprenticeship within an identified period.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Passion for working in a healthcare environment
  • Understand and possess the NHS Lothian Values: NHS Lothian Values
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to carry out delegated responsibilities within a dynamic clinical environment.
