We have an exciting opportunity for several Trainee Pension Administrators to join us as we are looking to enhance and strengthen our Pension Administration team.

Do you have as a minimum a Higher Mathematics qualification or equivalent?

Working at Lothian Pension Fund will give you the chance to work closely with our experienced Pensions Administration team and you will receive first rate support with our company training programme whilst you are working towards obtaining the Pensions Management Institute’s (PMI) Diploma in Pensions Administration (DPA) qualification within your first three years. On successful completion of the training programme, you will be appointed to the role of Pensions Administrator.

About us

Lothian Pension Fund administers the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) in Edinburgh and the Lothians. The Fund is a multi-employer scheme with £8billion of assets and was 106% funded at the last actuarial valuation. We manage the Fund on behalf of approximately 84,000 members and 90 employers and it is the second largest LGPS fund in Scotland.

The role

 You will complete a training programme

You will calculate members’ pension benefits in accordance with the rules of the LGPS in Scotland and provide accurate information to members via telephone, virtual meetings and written correspondence. You will maintain accurate member pension records and have a good understanding of the scheme (SLGPS) legislation. You will have opportunities to lead and participate in projects aimed at continuous service improvement,

The PMI DPA qualification

You will be required to demonstrate satisfactory progress through our work-based training programme together with attaining the Pensions Management Institute’s Diploma in Pensions Administration qualification. This is a competency-based qualification that reflects normal working activities and suitable support will be provided to facilitate your progression.

Your Skills

To be successful in this role you’ll need to meet the Minimum Criteria:

  • Higher Mathematics qualification or equivalent
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent work ethic, with team player and a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Willingness to study and attain the PMI Diploma in Pensions Administration (DPA) qualification within your first three years.

The assessment will happen in two stages, firstly, you’ll be asked to complete an exercise and return it to us. The applicants who most closely meet these requirements will be invited to attend for interview.

The final stage of assessment will be an interview on Microsoft teams, where you’ll be asked questions to allow you to demonstrate that you are a fit for the role.
