Position: Seasonal Catering Assistant

 

Locations: Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel, 9 Haddington Place, Leith Walk, Edinburgh EH7 4AL

 

Contract: Fixed term contract, immediate start until 30/Nov/22

 

Hours: 32 (increasing to 40 in line with business demand)

 

Pay: £9.75 per hour

 

Accommodation: Possibility of temporary accommodation considered

About the role:

 

You will mainly be preparing breakfast meals and also provide catering support to the Chef in the creation and service of quality and nutritious meals.  This position would suit someone who has studied/ is studying cookery course at a hospitality/catering college to pursue a chef career in future or someone with a keen passion for cooking and would like an opportunity to prepare, cook, present and serve a range of dishes in a commercial kitchen including group catering.

 

Suitable applicant will have:

 

  • Worked successfully in similar hospitality/catering surroundings with commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Excellent and confident communication skill and ability to work as team and without supervision.
  • Catering/kitchen experience either domestic or commercial environment with confidence and ability to cover in Chef’s absence to meet catering requirements under the direction of Hostel Manager.
  • Flexible approach and being hands-on to work as a team including clearing up after meals, dishwashing, cleaning dining and kitchen area to recognised statutory standards, etc.

 

Knowledge of excellent food and hygiene practice or CookSafe protocol and Health and Safety at Work including fire safety and evacuation would be an advantage.

  • A successful candidate is required to provide one satisfactory reference and a recent Basic Disclosure clearance
