JOB DESCRIPTION: Farmhouse and out Buildings Cleaner

JOB TITLE: Bridgend Cleaner

REPORTS TO: Facilities Coordinator

PLACE OF WORK: Bridgend Farmhouse, 41 Old Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh, EH16 4TE

HOURS OF WORK: 10 hrs per week (4 X 2.5 hr shifts), plus scheduled deep cleans during times of maintenance

SALARY:  £18,000 per annum (Pro-rata)

PENSION: 4% employer contribution (conditions apply)
HOLIDAYS: 25 days of annual leave and 9 public holidays (Pro-rata)

CONTRACT: Temporary

Bridgend Farmhouse is an award-winning community benefit society with charitable status based in South East Edinburgh.  Our mission is learning, working, and growing together to develop a flourishing community and place.

 

Following a successful campaign to gain community ownership of the land, the community project renovated and extended the 18th century farm steading and now runs a thriving community hub where people meet to carry out creative, physical, and purposeful activities and to share their skills and knowledge with others.

We work to address social inequalities, reduce isolation and loneliness, strengthen community involvement, build local resilience, develop environmental education and stewardship, and support people to be active agents in their life. Our members are our 400+ Community Shareholders, and we are led by our Board of Directors/Trustees who are elected from our membership and are predominantly local people.  We work with a sociocratic model of sub-groups and Volunteers’ Forum to inform and influence decisions at all levels of the organisation.

Purpose of the post:

This new post is designed so that the upkeep and cleanliness of our facilities are maintained to an exceptionally high standard.  As a member of the Bridgend team, the successful candidate will be familiar with our values and be responsible for ensuring that all facilities are clean, hygienic and well presented to everyone who uses or visits our facility.  Our new cleaners will be flexible, approachable and have high standards of cleanliness, they will also coordinate their cleaning duties around our extensive events program and ensure that our toilet facilities are hygienic prior to peak times. Ideally, the successful candidate will live locally and be community-minded.

Main responsibilities:

  • Develop a regular cleaning schedule that fits with our activities
  • Ensure that our work surfaces – including café, kitchen and office are clean
  • Clean W/Cs
  • Clean our event room and bothy – once complete
  • Keyholder, and comfortable with lone working outwith business hours
  • Ensure that there are ample cleaning supplies available at all times and within budget
  • Develop a cleaning routine so it can be upheld at times of absence, such as annual leave
  • Undertaking any reasonable duties as requested by the facilities coordinator
  • Record and document work undertaken

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION – Essential knowledge, experience, skills and attributes:

Experience of working as a professional cleaner in a busy community setting and providing excellent references for doing so

Good knowledge of ethical and ecologically friendly cleaning products and practices

Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision – well organised and able to plan, prioritise, and administer own work

Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, a good team player with a sense of fun

Resilient, can-do and problem-solving approach to challenges

Experience of working with volunteers particularly people with Learning Disabilities and Vulnerable Groups

Understanding of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) legislation

Desirable knowledge, experience and skills:

Knowledge of the local area and its communities

Training/qualification in First Aid and/or willing to undertake such training

Basic IT skills
