Job Description

Care Assistant

Job Purpose:

Working as an integral member of the care team, alongside nurse, senior care worker and other colleagues, you will support customers with all aspects of their day to day living, so they can enjoy the best possible quality of life. Safely provide compassionate care and support that is centred on the individual needs and wishes of each customer.

See the whole person and not merely a list of care/support needs. Carefully listen and observe how customers prefer their care and support to be delivered on a day to day basis. Help them make their own decisions to be as independent as possible.

Respect customers’ choices and promote their dignity at all times. Compassion, good communication skills and a calm and caring manner are essential for this important role in our company.

Follow instructions in the care and support plan which has been agreed with each customer. This may include:

  • All aspects of personal care, e.g. Showering and bathing, dressing and grooming, toileting and continence care, teeth and dentures
  • Eating and drinking, e.g. Helping the customer to plan what to eat and drink, gentle encouragement and help to eat and drink well, preparing and clearing tables for mealtime services, including keeping the servery area clean and tidy;
  • Safely using aids and personal equipment in a manner that respects the dignity of customers. For example: Standing and walking frames, wheelchairs, manual and electric hoists, sliding sheets, hearing aids and other physical aids
  • Make visitors feel welcome, offer hospitality.

Job Specific Knowledge:

  • Previous experience in care is desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of infection control – work to avoid outbreaks where possible and recognise the need to deliver an urgent response should one occur
  • Ability to adapt communication and listening skills according to the individual needs of the customers
  • Good written communication – must be in English
  • Knowledge of Care Inspectorate and National Care Home Standards is desirable
  • Understanding of nutrition in relation to health
  • Ability to work to SSSC codes of practice

  • Must be physically capable of performing duties as outlined in the job description.
  • Able to work in a professional manner yet able to demonstrate compassion and sensitivity when working with customers and their families.
  • Able to work as part of a team as well as unsupervised.
  • Able work various shift patterns
  • Able to adhere to company dress code.
  • Willingness to complete training

Rate of pay: £9.02 – £9.22 per hour
